Kartesia, the European specialist provider of capital solutions for small and mid-sized companies, is pleased to announce it has provided an Unitranche facility to support FCDE (“Fonds de Consolidation et de Développement des Entreprises”) and Bertin Technologies (“Bertin” or “the Group”) with the acquisition of the Finnish company, Environics (“the Company”), a leading global supplier of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (“CBRN”) detection devices.

Founded in 1992, Environics has been a longstanding privileged partner of blue-chip clients in highly demanding industries such as Military and Defence, firefighters, police and is well positioned in large and resilient underlying markets, driven by favourable fundamentals. With staff of 59 people, Environics is an industrial company with exceptional mastering of the development and commercialisation of advanced CBRN technologies and their applications in critical environments.

This strategic move will further accelerate the international development of Bertin Technologies and reinforce its industrial base in the Nordics where the Group is already well-established with Bertin Exensor (Sweden). This transaction will result in the creation of a European leading player in CBRN detection, identification and monitoring equipment and systems.

Bertin is backed by FCDE which supports the development and transformation of French SMEs and mid-cap companies with high growth potential. On 1st December 2021, FCDE announced signing an agreement with CNIM and Equitis Gestion to acquire Bertin Technologies, alongside the broader management team.

Kartesia is providing an Unitranche facility to support the acquisition of Environics by the Group. The capital was deployed from Kartesia’ Senior Opportunities fund (KSO I and II). The deal team at Kartesia included Damien Scaillierez, Charles-Henri Clappier, Alexis Midol and Antonin Ramon.

Charles-Henri Clappier, Head of KSO France at Kartesia, commented: “We are delighted to support Bertin Technologies and FCDE in the acquisition of Environics, a global leading supplier of CBRN detection devices. We are really impressed by the specialist and differentiated positioning of Environics which provides best-in-class handheld CBRN detection devices for mission-critical applications. We look forward to continuing to work with FCDE and Bertin’s management team to carry out the Group’s ambitious strategic growth plan.”
